Ms. C.B. is a 23 year-old-female, single, and work as cashier at Walmart. She is residing in North Fort Myers, FL., who presented at the Millenium clinic to be seen bacause over the past six months, she has been experiencing incrising problems with her menstrual cycle. Usually, symptoms occur five to ten days before her menstrual cycle start, which is severe enough to interfere with her daily living. Some symptoms include breast tenderness, irritability, mood swings, and food cravings. She also stated that she missed work on several occasions, especially because the fatigue and lack of energy. Nothing helps, but sometimes she takes taylenol- OTC. During the assessment history, she reveals a history of anxiety, chlamidia, and generalized rebound …show more content…
The symptoms can be severe and affects the way the person handling daily activities. Many women experience during the menstrual cycle. To be diagnosed with depression, the symptoms must be present for at least two weeks (Fuller, 2015). Major depression is associated with inability to perform daily tasks as well as feelings of hopelessness. Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a condition which some women experiences before menstrual cycle. PMDD is more severe than PMS, but some symptoms associated with PMDD are: irritability and tension (Freeman, Halberstadt, Rickels, Legler, Lin, & Sammel, 2016). Dysmenorrhea is a common term for menstrual cramps that are repetitive but is not associated with other disease. There are types of dysmenorrhea: primary, which usually happens one or two days before the menstrual cycle; it is a severe pain up to seventy-two hours associated with nausea, vomiting, and fatigue and diarrhea. The second dysmenorrhea is a pain, but assocuiated with a disorder of reproductive organs such as endometriosis, uterine fibroids, or infections. C.B. needs consuling regarding her disregarding of her social life; prevention is a key factor for a healthy life. She must be engaged and empowered to reduce the risk of developing diseases and other comorbidities. She also needs to be educated and establish a premenstrual pattern, such as keep a diary record of her signs and symptoms for two menstrual cycles. Note the day that her first notice PMS symptoms, as well as the day they disappear. Also be sure to mark the day the period starts and ends.
Health Promotion
Treatment can be associated with lifestyle changes; therefore, patient encouraged to maintain a regular schedule of meals, exercise, and bedtime. Avoid alcohol; drinking alcohol before period can make a person feel more depressed. Changes in diet, drink plenty of water. Furthermore, reducing the amount of caffeine may help diminish the tense and can ease irritability and breast soreness as well as relaxation techniques such as yoga.
