Major Changes In Early Childhood Education

Transitions are difficult for everybody, especially if you are transitioning from working with kids everyday to sitting in a desk. My mom started her career late, graduating with an Associates in Early Childhood Education in 2014. She was already teaching at the time of getting her degree because she was promoted very quickly. The summer of 2015, she was promoted to Component assistant and had to leave the classroom. In her new job, she has to drive to and from Worland every day. After working 3 months in this position, she was promoted once again and now has to continue her schooling. When asked if she was nervous about going back to school, she replied with “Only paying for it”. She said that the schooling itself wasn’t scary for her because she has so much support for everything. When she was the teacher at Head Start (Thermopolis Center), she didn’t have to pay for any of her schooling. Now that she has been promoted to the Education Coordinator, she has to pay for all of it on her own or with loans. Switching to a desk job requires a lot of different changes. One major change for my mom was getting a whole new wardrobe. While teaching Head Start, she could wear jeans and a t-shirt. When she switched to working in the office, she had to start wearing dress slacks, dresses, and skirts. …show more content…
My mom has worked very hard to get where she is now, even though she didn’t know that leaving the classroom would be part of her path. She said “At least now I can give the teachers those tools. I’ve done it for 10 years, now I can help the others” and that is her way to deal with the transition. Her new dress code has worked its way into her closet, and she learned that driving all of that time gives her time to think. She may have had to leave her job as a teacher, but now she fulfills her goals of still helping the families by teaching the classroom teachers what she had done for such a long

Personal Philosophy I believe that all children are unique and bring their own knowledge and experiences to any educational environment. I believe the early childhood environment is a place for children to be free agents to; develop, learn, grow and express themselves, while having the confidence and respect they as a person are entitled to. Furthermore I also belie that all children have the right to learn and their learning be abundant with experiences, knowledge and quality, as well as feeling a sense of belonging to their community and learning environment. These beliefs are important to my teaching and my philosophy of early childhood eduction.…

A recent study on social and emotional risk and protective factors that predict early school problems or success found that "children who do not begin kindergarten socially and emotionally competent are often not successful in the early years of school—and can be plagued by behavioral, emotional, academic, and social development problems that follow them into adulthood (U.S Department of Health and Human Services). " Creating a positive social relationship is an important outcome of preschool, possibly more important is avoiding social isolation. Research shows that it is possible to predict as early as preschool the kind of children who will have social and academic problems, because they are already either overlooked or casted off by other children. To develop positive social relationships it is important to build relationships with parents so that children feel safe, secure, and comfortable with their teachers. Provide opportunities for children to work and play together.…
