Industrialization raised the standard of life for many average Americans through the mass-production of clothing, household goods and processed foods to revolutionizing the way people traveled and communicated.
However, the availability of jobs caused the lives of the people to contrast severely. The wealthy enjoyed lives of luxury. They had many opportunities for financial gain. The middle class lived comfortably, such as small business owners, office managers, etc. The underprivileged did not share in the benefits of the economic growth. They usually worked long hours for low pay with no fringe benefits. The poor lived crowded together in slums in crime generated neighborhoods with poor sanitation because they had to work to contribute to their families’ welfare.
