Introduction
Across the globe, there is concern about the effect of childcare given by maids and its results on children development even though research has shown that good optional childcare when the children are young can bring good results as well as good effect on children’s growth.
This article reviews the widespreaddesignation of early childhood care to domestic workers (maids) in United Arab Emirates Janice (2015). For a long period of time there has been rising concern among professionals about this means of child care. Giving the parents awareness of the possible link between early care giving and the children social and emotional development was the key point of study. Fourresearch questions from the study were formed.
1. How much childhood care is given to maids interms of the quality, extent and availability?
2. How much childcare is delegated to domestic workers in the study region?
3. How are the children socially and emotionally affected by their early experiences with family maids?
4. What can parents the government do to mitigate any negative effects?
Methods and methodology
A survey of families was conducted in order to show the prevalence of the use of maids as children care givers, not considering the family’s background, social status or the income level. The geographical and social boundaries of the study were got through carrying out direct interviews to family members and the statics got from their replies were used to sample the results. Out of the 100 families and individuals interviewed, 80 families showed having maids at their homes was important. A beautiful home without a trained child care giver will not promote positive growth of the child. It is noted that extensive non-maternal childcare before a child attain the age of one year may be associated with reduced obedience and support with the adults, increasedviolence, and the possible greater social changes before school and also in early school years. Moreover children getting non-maternal child care for long hours in a whole week are likely to have a weak attachment to their mothers than the children who are taken care of by their mothers Preet (2014). Other effects that may come up as a result of using maids as childcare givers are; Reduced harmonized mother-child attachment, more problematic behaviors where cognitive ability as well as language ability is lowered. Thisresult of the maid involved in giving care to the child is; harsh, is unable to provide personal attention because they take care of other house duties such as laundry, cooking and cleaning. This is evident in the survey where 78% of the interviewed family members said that these are the house hold duties that the maids
