Mahalia’s parents and relatives wouldn’t let Jackson sing jazz because of their devoted practice of Christianity. To Jackson's family, gospel songs were of importance to have a strong faith and a core part of Christianity (CBB Paragraph 6). Having her dreams of singing jazz becoming extinct, it taught Jackson that she cannot get everything that she wanted in life. Living in a poor house stressed this even more. Jackson had to work hard to achieve her goal, no matter what come in the way. These lessons at such a young age allowed Jackson to thrive in the music business. Then as her life progressed, “her mother, a devout Baptist who died when Mahalia was five”(CBB Paragraph 4). Now, Mahalia had to take care of her 5 brothers and sisters. With little support of her, Jackson grew many life long skills. Taking care of one child is hard, but 5 at the age of only five that can be accomplished with some major hard work. Jackson has grew this trait of working hard. Even while black people and white people didn’t have the same rights, Jackson overcame the stereotypes and became a strong person. Not without being hard working to accomplish her dreams. No one should ever go through what Mahalia went through, but she overcame obstacles and earned her career. None of that would have been possible without her
