CONSULTANT’S NOTES

In our discussion Mr Maguire presented as young and energetic, with a personable and engaging style. His almost 10 years in customer facing roles in the building industry has given him an experienced or credible commercial style.

It is interesting to note that he has been promoted at Dowell Windows due to his sales effectiveness, and he now is responsible for the Company’s new business effort – i.e. he can do the hard things.

To his credit he is continuing to invest in his personal/professional development via tertiary study.

Mr Maguire states he is currently employed on a base salary of $85,000pa., plus Company superannuation, plus Company car (Mondeo wagon), plus phone and laptop etc. His last salary review was in July this year.

In addition, he is “affordable”.

His weaknesses are that he lacks some sophistication or polish in his style. He is more indicative of a good building materials Rep, than (say) an accomplished architectural Rep/Consultant.

The foregoing comments are based on the results of an extensive interview with Mr Maguire. The candidate's references will be checked once the client indicates a desire to proceed with this candidate's application.

The passage from "Me Talk Pretty One Day" by David Sedaris is a comical, nuanced look at one man's decision to return to school in his 40's, only to find that the more things change, the more they stay the same. Thrust back into the classroom environment, Sedaris is reminded of his angst-filled teen years, full of doubt and crippling insecurity, and exacerbated by a sadistic instructor who seems to take the utmost delight in terrorizing her students. Through hard work, and perseverance, and the luck of not being fluent in French, he ultimately realizes his goal, and triumphs despite his teacher's best efforts. The goal has not changed.…
