This opportunity appeals to me because I find cultural practices and customs to be interesting, and I believe that being in North Cobb High School's magnet program will allow me to explore something of my interests. I was born in the Netherlands, so I learned Dutch before I even learned English. I have an elementary understanding of both the German and Spanish languages, and I am currently taking Spanish 1. I have lived with my family in Europe for about 4 years, and I have been to Belgium and Germany, so traveling to other countries is easy for me. Being dual-national, I am used to cultural blending, and I will find it easy to understand other cultures. Being in this magnet program might allow me to get a job as a museum curator,

Great discussion posts this week! The notion that Magnet destination is a marketing ploy for institutions is certainly thought provoking. In Research Methodology 5023, Tammy and I were going to work on a systematic review comparing Magnet vs non-Magnet hospitals and improved patient outcomes, but unfortunately we did not find significant up to date statistical data that met the course's requirements, so we ended up switching gears and worked on an entirely different topic. At any rate, currently there are 441 Magnet hospitals in the United States ( ANCC, 2016), and in 2012 there were 391 Magnet recognized hospitals ( Levy, 2012), so it appears these numbers continue to grow slowly.…

Developer Total Monkery has released their new ID@Xbox title, MagNets: Fully Charged, which is an overhauled port of the original game that came out on Steam last year. I never got a chance to play the original myself, nor have I indulged in any arcade-style collectathon games in quite a long time, so I was hoping this would be an interesting change of pace for me. Sadly, this wouldn’t be all that interesting of an experience for me. MagNets is a pretty simple game in both its gameplay and story; you play as Faraday, a small android-like park ranger at Polarity Park who must fight against these block-shaped robots (aptly named Bloxbots) who’ve gone rogue and have captured the MagNetPets, robotic animals that are precious to Polarity City.…

In the second grade, it was the first time I realized that I had the potential to do great things. My teacher, Mrs. Wazidali, saw something that no other teacher saw. She immediately spoke to my parents and informed them that I should be placed into the magnet program because the current curriculum was not challenging enough for me. I was given the choice to either stay or to be placed in the program. I said yes, and that was when my journey started.…

For four years during my undergrad I had the privilege of studying Anthropology and Sociology at the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities. When I started college, I believed that I would be pursuing a career in the museum world as a curator or in museum administration. However, my interests in the justice system along with my background in Anthropology conflicted with that goal of working in a museum setting until I found that I could have a career involving both of my areas of study. My experiences both personal and academic have made me consider a different career choice which allows me to work for the government with my Anthropology background as a forensic anthropologist. Growing up in a small town located in central Minnesota was very boring and there was not much to do for fun.…

I am an active participant in class and hold leadership roles in practically everything I am involved in. I hope to gain the raw skills of persuasive communication and to increase my level of confidence while I am speaking to a group.…

I have always had a passion for history and storytelling since I was a child and decided in seventh grade world history class that I wanted to be an archaeologist, discovering ancient cultures and uncovering their secrets. I maintained this plan, arriving at Boston University as an archaeology major but after several semesters of study realized that it wasn’t the exact path for me. I began to grow my appreciation of museums, admiring how they could ignite wonder, curiosity, and learning in myself and others. I realized this was where I felt most at home. Therefore, I decided to change my major to art history, while retaining an archaeology minor, and explore history through the lens of artist’s interpretations and ideas.…
