When the hydrochloric acid was added to the magnesium ribbon in the test tube it immediately caused a chemical reaction. The acid began to bubble and pushed the ribbon to the top of the acid. While observing the reaction we could feel heat coming off the test tube meaning that it was a chemical change because it caused energy. After a couple of seconds the magnesium ribbon had fully dissolved into the hydrochloric acid and some sort of gas came out of the test tube.
