Magic in this play is used to exaggerate the love relations in all of the lovers initially, and the same magic is used again to restore and solve the confusion it has made. Certain characters, such as Hermia and Lysander, are meant to fall in love and become indigenously married but, by the placement of this magic, there are marriage failures and characters start falling in love with the wrong people while it hauls relationships between others apart. Even the fairies, especially Puck, cause complications to this situation. The text says, “Have you not set Lysander, as in scorn, To follow me, and praise my eyes and face? And made your other love, Demetrius, Who even but now did spurn me with his foot, To call me goddess, nymph, divine, and rare, Precious, celestial? Wherefore speaks he this, To her he hates? And wherefore doth Lysander Deny your love, so rich within his soul, And tender me, forsooth, affection, But by your setting on, by your consent? What though I be not so in grace as you, So hung upon with love, so fortunate, But miserable most, to love unloved? This you should pity rather than despise.” Helena is very confused and is extremely upset about the situation. One of the most commonly used magical solutions is the special nectar from the flower. The “potion” was misused to create characters to fall in love with those who awaken them. It causes many problems between relationships and confusion occurs because of Puck using this potion on the wrong people. As a result of its magic, turmoil follows ensues. The text says," Fetch me that flower, the herb that I showed thee once; the juice of it on sleeping eyelids laid will make or man or woman madly dote upon the next live creature that it sees." This is when the first nectar appears in the play, and it causes chaos in love and personalities. After Oberon drops the potion in Titania 's eyes, the Fairy Queen wakes up and falls in love with Nick Bottom, who has the head of a donkey. Oberon uses this flower for revenge. Oberon takes the spell away from Titania and then she no longer loves Bottom. Puck also applies the love potion into Lysander 's eyes. When he wakes up and sees Helena, Lysander forgets all about his current girlfriend, Hermia, and becomes fixated on Helena instead.
