When women decide to make a bold move in the media it can either backfire completely or inspire an entire generation of young girls. It is common that girls are told to cover up and be modest as their bodies change and mature, while young men are not pressured to cover up any parts of their body at any time in their life. This has resulted in a society that constantly judges every move that a woman makes, especially when it has to do with her own body. The worst part of this situation is that women are the prime suspects for bringing their fellow women down. It is hard enough to take criticism from a man, let alone someone who could be in the exact same position. The video was full of other powerful celebrities such as Chrissy Teigen, Kim Kardashian, and Ciara. Fergie decided to write a song about powerful and successful moms after the birth of her son Axl. She chose to express herself by making a sexy music video with other sexy mothers. The goal was to show the world that a woman could juggle the everyday stresses of being a full time mom, while remaining confident and sexy. While this seems like a very positive message, it went right over the heads of most of the female population. Reviews were so awful that I could not find one positive review when she posted the video to her Facebook page. Several reviews would comment on her age, and imply that group of women are simply whores. It is incredible to see people comment on how old she is, while most attractive celebrity men can get away with aging for a very long time. My question to them is, why can’t she be successful and show off her body? Most women were not saying that when Channing Tatum would gyrate on-screen in Magic Mike. It makes one wonder why being a woman and being confident is so insulting to other women. There could be plenty of reasons why women choose to bring down other women. They could be jealous, uncomfortable with their own sexuality, or just incredibly superficial. Full-grown women will sit behind their computer screens and make fun of women that are far more successful than them.
