Lior's Magic Glasses Analysis

When I was six years old, I read Lior’s Magic Glasses by Shula Modan, a children’s story about a boy who sees two pairs of glasses at the store: a pink pair and a black pair. When he puts on the black pair, he sees the world negatively. Yet with the pink pair, the world is filled with joy. However, when the worker at the store tells the boy that “not everything is black or pink, there are a lot of colors in between”, the boy realizes that he can’t wear the pink glasses all the time and needs to face reality. Nevertheless, with reality, not everything is hopeless, and there is often some color hidden. I had a similar experience to that of the boy in the story while volunteering at the Sacred Heart Toy Distribution event.
At the event, a woman handed me a red Santa hat and a large bag and ushered me with the rest of

She made me feel like I had a voice, and I felt like I was wearing the pink glasses from the story every time I was with her. She was available at all times, from brunch to lunch to empty periods, and students would always have the nicest comments about her. One day, a group of students had questions about an assignments after school, and she decided to cancel an important doctor’s appointment she had in order to make sure every student there received help. With this one action, this teacher influenced me to not only want to help others myself whenever I can, but to also follow her footsteps in becoming a teacher myself. I realized, once again, that I must face reality and struggling, such as of the students’, with black glasses, but I can also use that to help and make others see the pink. In fifth grade I had a teacher who mocked my accent in front of the class and made me ashamed to talk. I want to help children by not being that kind of teacher; I want to become the type of teacher who inspires others, and makes students excited to come to school and

Wednesday, September 16th, 2015 I did my observation of Paul Dunbar Middle School. Some of the first things I noticed when I entered the school was how enormous the school’s population is and how the school was mostly Hispanic and African American students. I arrived at the front desk and was asked by the assistant principal what was my preference of classroom. She then proceeded to take me the section of the school where the ESE classes are held. ESE stands for exceptional student education classes.…

Piggy and Ralph discovered the conch on the beach at the beginning of the book and use it to summon everyone after the crash or for meetings. Used in this manner, the conch becomes a powerful symbol of civilization and order. The shell governs the boys meetings, whichever boy is holding the conch is the only one allowed to speak. In this regard the shell is like a democratic power. As the island life escalates the boys stray towards savagery, and the shell loses its power and influence on them.…

The teacher at Ritenour that has influenced me the most is Mrs. Haar-Chapman or for short Mrs. HC. She influenced me the most, in my walk towards college. Before I began a strive for college, I wasn't sure I was cut out for the “college life”. She pushed me and my class as a whole to find a college and research about it, at first I thought it was a bit ridiculous, I won't deny it. She made us dive into researching about our future.…

My favorite part of the day at Sinking Springs was when the walls between the classrooms opened. When the walls were open, two classes became one class. Although the sense of family was present in an individual class, opening up the wall created a greater sense of unity. Without thinking, we mixed between the two classrooms.…

The Struggles I Faced on my Journey to Literacy At a young age my journey to literacy began. I loved books and story time, especially when my mom would read my favorite bedtime stories like “Green Eggs and Ham” and “Little Red Riding Hood.” I always loved for people to read me stories, but hated to read to others. It was hard for me to pronounce words and it was more difficult for me to understand the words I was reading. All that changed after the bad experiences I faced and the help I received from the different people in my life.…

These ideas hold true within Lynda Barry’s “The Sanctuary of School.” She discusses the importance of teachers and their involvement in the lives of their students. Specifically, she tells the story of her childhood and how her teacher made a positive impact in her life by getting involved. As she snuck out of her house, she walked herself to school in the dark hours before it started in order to get out of her home situation. Encountering her teacher, she began…

As I get off the bus from the long day of school, I head on over to the building ahead of me to now start with the next task in my day, tutoring. The school year had just begun a short while ago and I had to juggle the responsibilities of a new job and school work for the first time. Walking into the school, I saw the familiar faces of kids I worked with before when I previously volunteered on my free time. Once I settled into a classroom to start, students came in with their books and started to work away at their homework. All but one of the faces seemed familiar, so I checked to see who the new student was.…

Mrs. Winn’s kindergarten class was probably one of my favorite elementary classes because I had my best guy friend, Cameron, in the class, and it was obviously an easy class for me. I remember whenever we colored anything or did any drawings, my teacher would always compliment my coloring abilities because I knew how to color within the lines; all the other kids had scribbles outside of the lines and their drawings would not be as neat as mine. Cameron and another boy named Jordy were my favorite people in the class and the three of us would always hang out together and play outside during recess. Jordy was my favorite until he snitched on me and told the teacher I did something I did not do. He eventually died out of my life because I did…
