F. Scott Fitzgerald shows that Gatsby is associated with the Mafia in “The Great Gatsby”. “Mr.Carraway this is my friend Mr. Wolfshiem.” pg 73, Wolfshiem goes on to talk about rigging the World Series. Fitzgerald puts this is the book to show a relationship between the Mafia, Mr Wolfshiem, and Gatsby. Only someone high up in the Mafia would be able to rig the World Series. “Taking a white card from his wallet he waved it before the man’s eyes.” pg 72 This shows that Gatsby has done something for the commissioner and that the commissioner owes Gatsby. The commissioner does not want people knowing about what he has allowed. Gatsby being friends with Wolfshiem and the commissioner telling the cops to leave Gatsby alone makes connections to Gatsby
