The game we just played in class is called Mafia. The point of Mafia is to have two hitmen and they have to blink at other people to "kill them." Also, we had two detectives trying to figure out who the hitmen were. They had to stand and observe the crowd and try to find out who were the hitmen. This game relates to the second chapter of Julius Caesar by Shakespeare.

There a more than a few examples of how it connects; here are some of these examples. In the story, Brutus is plotting with his peers to kill Julius Caesar. A soothsayer warns Caesar to beware of the ides of March. This is the day Brutus planned on murdering Caesar with the help of others. This relates because there is killing going on, and even though it's not random like

With each movie genre comes growth and evolution. When a genre first starts out in the industry, it usually will not look exactly the same as it would if it was made today. Specifically, when it comes to mafia movies, the core values each film shares still stays true. The consistent rush of criminal activity and bad guys looking like good guys are all the same qualities that keep the content of the films strong. But, the genre itself has continued to grow, both through techniques as well as the expansion of subjects to be successful in.…

There are mostly two kinds of leaders, an arrogant leader, and a confident leader. Of course there are different kinds of leaders, but most leaders are divided into those two categories. An arrogant leader would mostly be all-talk and would be disliked by his own subordinates. A skilled arrogant leader, however, would be more liked by his subordinates since his skills would make up for his attitude. It is the same with a confident, it mostly depends on an individual’s skill.…

Truthfully power and powerlessness both corrupt, but in my eyes it’s the desire for power that corrupts more, as it is what corrupts the powerless in the beginning. We have a plethora of examples where those in power become dishonest, greedy, and overpowered by the same power they cling to. While it’s a pessimistic viewpoint, I believe given enough time, anyone in power would digress to a corrupt form. As Lord Acton put it, “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely”, meaning there is potential for the powerlessness to stray onto a crooked path, but those who have power will without a doubt, fall. Julius Caesar and Brutus are excellent examples of the powerful and powerless intertwining.…

Everything can be connected in literature. Whether it be a romance novel and an action book or a scary movie and a short story, there is always a connection you just have to search for it. I compiled five different pieces of literature and was able to connect them in a variety of ways. Using Thomas C. Foster’s ideas of “pattern recognition” and a literary lens mentioned in the “Literary Perspective Tool Kit” packet, I was able to connect The Matrix and Dead Poets Society. I also found connections between The Catcher in the Rye, “The Flowers”, and “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?”…

Julius Caesar manipulated and bribed his way to gaining political power, specifically the consul of Rome by 59 BC, by becoming popular among the people. He was named governor of Gaul and became a threat to the Senate and Pompey who had already held power in Rome. Caesar became an enemy of the state and made an act of war by deciding to cross the Rubicon river confronting Pompey, a turning point that was the start of a civil war. The sources Suetonius’ “The Deified Julius Caesar” in Lives of the Caesars, Plutarch’s “Caesar” in Roman Lives, and Julius Caesar’s The Civil War each tell of Julius Caesar’s Civil War describing his political manipulation and rise to power involving the famous crossing of the Rubicon.…

Machiavellian villains are notorious for preying upon their victims until they accomplish their goal. In Othello, William Shakespeare uses Iago’s manipulation of Othello as an example of what Machiavellian villains do to their victims. Iago is a classic example of a Machiavellian villain, as he continues to manipulate Othello and turn him against his friends. Ultimately Iago is able to turn him against his wife, at which point Othello turns on himself by committing suicide. As presented in Othello, Machiavellian villains are a far more dangerous foe than someone who uses physical violence because they are able to destroy the lives of multiple people simultaneously and turn their victims against themselves.…
