Mae jemison was born in 1956 in a city called Decatur located in Georgia Alabama. When she was three years old she moved to Chicago with her family; she considers Chicago her hometown.

Mae enjoyed spending her time in her school library where she read science books especially astronomy, the study of stars, planets, and other objects in outer space.
