The neighborhood was filled with crime drug problems. Her first couple of jobs included her acting in low budget films, figure modeling, and she danced for a little in order to study choreography. After a few years of these jobs, she landed a position as a singer and dancer with French disco artist Patrick Hernandez. The pair traveled to Paris to perform for large crowds for a couple of years. This was when she discovered her fascination with music. Before she moved back to New York, she played the drums and became a backup singer in small bands that performed evening gigs at bars and clubs in Paris.
