(Alex Madonna’s Gold Rush Steak House)
Luxurious! Extravagant! Over the top! Those are just some of the words that describe the Madonna Inn and the gold rush steak house. They are known for their outrageous themed rooms and colorful seating in the restaurant and café. In their inn they have a lot of themed rooms like “The Caveman”, “Old Mexico”, “Safari”, and many more outrageous rooms. Their café is known for their hot sandwiches and their steak house is known for their steaks and eye popping décor. They do also have a bakery that puts out great baked goods. They are located in San Luis Obispo right by the 101 freeway. They’re open from 5-10pm daily. The place is hard to miss because of their bright pink colors and blues. The property is adorned with pseudo-Swiss-Alps exterior and lavish common rooms accented by pink roses, Western murals, and hammered copper. To some it seems a bit too much, but for some it is simply mesmerizing. A big put off is that they are located just right off the freeway and you do have the car coming and going. The food is really great. Their steaks are cooked to perfection even if you ask for it well done. I did try the fillet mignon which was cook to a medium rare and it was cooked just perfectly and tender. The sides are also great. The menu choices don’t really change. For some it might be good, if you’re a regular. They are a great restaurant that can really execute seasonal dishes, but they might be trying to play it safe. You do get what you pay for in size of portions of food. In price wise, it is really expensive. The dishes including the salads do not go under 23 dollars.
