Hawthorne’s Tell-Tale Heart uses imagery, setting, and point of view to construct and develop the characterization of madness and insanity possessed by the narrator. The vulture eye is animagery that Poe includes to portray the anger. As the narrator gaze upon the vulture eye, “he [grows] furious”, and claims that it keeps his heart beat “[grow] louder, louder... [like] the heart must burst” (94). Though the vulture eye that caused nervousness which created anger and anxiety, the narrator still “loves the old man” (92). This leads to the thought that he is crazy.
