Sterling Rector, Briar Bodemann, and Takira Blick as well as five other Barber County 4-Hers all went to Citizenship in Action (CIA) in Topeka, Kansas on February 19th-20th with the help of chaperones Robin Eubanks and Patricia Cargill. The event started with ice breakers where they met new people from other 4-H clubs. Then after the ice breakers they ate dinner with their representative, Kyle Hoffman. After supper they all went to the capitol on the house floor and debated on three bills to make secondary education free, increase the driving age, and if parents should pay for extra circular activities. Nothing passed but an amendment to decrease the driving age.…
MILLERSBURG — For allegedly failing to comply with legal requirements, a man who was identified as a sexually oriented offender as a teen, was sentenced Wednesday to house arrest. Johnathan M. Salkeld, 25, of 101 Lakeview Drive, Apt. C-65, Millersburg, previously pleaded guilty in Holmes County Common Pleas Court to failure to register. Salkeld was designated a sexually oriented offender, subjecting him to 10 years of registration as such, following a 2006 conviction for gross sexual imposition in Stark County Family Court. He was sentenced to three years of community control service, to include six months of electronically monitored house arrest.…

Wren Noyes Irion County Irion County is situated on the Edwards Plateau in southwest central Texas. Every year for the last 18 year, The Center for Community Studies at Jefferson Community College has presented a survey to the adults who live in Jefferson County. The purpose of the survey is to get an idea on how life is perceived on a number of topics, by these adult individuals living within these communities. A similar survey is conducted in the nearby counties St. Lawrence County and Lewis County. A Presentation of Results is released after the Advisory Board of the Center for Community Studies and Student Associates who worked on this project have completed their findings; Implementing them into a document that can be reviewed by anyone either by contacting the center by mail, email, or telephone. The Lower Merion School District provided laptop computers to high school students as part of a one to one program. The program allowed the students to bring home a laptop computer provided by the school district. Unbeknownst to the students or their parents the laptop computers were all programed with spyware that gave the school district access to the computers’ webcam. The goal of the one to one program was to increase the connectivity between home and school for students. The access to computers enabled the students to access online programs and activities that relate to the information that the students learned in the classroom during the day.…
