Transcultural Nursing Theory
Dr. Leininger realized that there was a mismatch between nursing care and culture while working with children in a child guidance home. This led to the development of the theory of Transcultural Nursing that is also known as Culture Care Theory. The theory connects culturally congruent nursing care with cognitively based assistance, or acts and decisions that match an individual’s or group’s cultural values and beliefs (Snowden, Donnell & Duffy, 2010). The focus of the theory is on the nursing practice to be beneficial for people of varied cultures and backgrounds.
