Summers Are Made for Rockin’

I remember, summers of long ago, when days were carefree and full of joy.
Lazy summers, spent on beaches - just lying in the sun.
Nothing could stand in the way, of a wonderful day, old rock tunes and jumping among the waves.
Summers just got harder, when the days of youth flew by and life’s burdens - took most of the happiness away.
Now summer has come again and brought its beauty, the days remind me of those, from my childhood.
So I say, let’s not waste another moment, life still has lots to give - let’s rock this summer while we can.
Let’s rock this summer. enjoy each sunny day, sing our cares away and wear the happy smiles of yesterday.
Just kick off your shoes and dance beneath the moon.
Let’s rock this summer

“Endless Summer” Rhetorical Analysis In the short story, “Endless Summer” by Rick Bragg he explains how the season of summer, favored by children, is “truncated” by those who “do not know how sweet it is to feel the mud mush between their toes”. In Calhoun County, Alabama the boy in the story is said to be wasting time playing in the mud but the way he sees it kids now are the ones wasting their summers away. Kids now already are deprived of their whole summer by having to start school in August, but they are engulfed with their television and phone screens making time waste away. This “magnificent mud hole” was the most paramount part of this boy’s August days.…

So I finally settled on the poem “The Summer Day” by Mary Oliver. The overall theme of the poem has the meaning of nature and finding one’s self. I found this poem to be enticing because the whole idea of figuring out who you are is the epitome of life and a crucial part of everyone’s lives. Oliver begins the poem with three rhetorical questions. These questions increase in specific detail order.…

Most teenagers would probably tell you that the beginning of their adulthood was marked by having to do laundry for the first time, or being able to drive alone, or perhaps no longer sitting at the children's table at family events. But for me, it happened this past summer, when I made the very difficult decision that I would not return to Coleman Country Day Camp. To those who were not fortunate enough to have grown up at summer camp, this might not seem like such a big decision to make. But Coleman was my outlet, my second home for ten consecutive summers and spending those two months anywhere else seemed inconceivable to me.…

Even though there are people I don’t get along with and it’s been quite the roller coaster of emotions, there’s nothing else in the world I would want to do more at this moment. So now, with only three shows left, I find myself realizing what a good move changing schools was, and that sticking out driving to Puyallup from February to June just for school from here lead to this, and that’s okay. I had to endure basically that hell of a school, because it was leading me to this, this school, these people, this is what I needed. Not people who hated me and pulled me down with them, not ones who sided with people who spread lies about me.…

Where Are You Going? Where Have You Been? By Joyce Carol Oates is the story of Connie, a 15 year old Texan girl, and one fateful summer day. Through characterization and symbolism the author shows that often teenagers rush into the fantasy of adulthood, never expecting how real it can get. By using the summer to represent her fall from innocence, music to show how Connie feels, and her habit of checking her reflection to prove she’s still young and insecure- despite how she may act, Oates provides an intense look at how there is always more to what is going on than initially appears.…

Summertime, from the folk opera Porgy and Bess, is a haunting, languid melody created by the highly esteemed American composer and pianist, George Gershwin. Gershwin was one of the twentieth-century’s most influential, beloved composers, and a multitalented musical genius. He composed numerous orchestral works for piano and jazz orchestra, and created popular musical compositions for several stage works and films. Gershwin’s most famous piece, however, is undoubtedly Rhapsody in Blue. I have admired and revered Gershwin’s musical virtuosity for the greater portion of my life; thus, I was ecstatic when my piano instructor chose Rhapsody in Blue as my senior recital piece.…

The poem High Summer by John Hodgen critiques the affect prominent poets have on the thinking of future generation and examines the validity of these critiques made on the subjects they write about. In this poem, John Hodgen describes, in a plain spoken and blunt way, Walt Whitman helping wounded Civil War veterans in a makeshift military hospital. He uses candid comparisons to prove his points and alliteration to improve the readability of his poem at the end. In order to understand poems, the reader must have a historical and cultural understanding of the subject manner.…

Surfing was starting to evolve from its Hawaiian roots during the 60’s. It was spreading from the West Coast to the East Coast in the U.S. The Beach Boys never actually surfed, but was inspired by the surfers and the great time everybody was having around them. So they wrote a song about what it’s like to cruise along the waves and relax. “Surfin’ U.S.A.” takes the listener to another world of what California was like in the 1960’s.…

According to Floyd, “summertime” was the opening song written by George Gershwin for his folk opera porgy and Bess in 1935 which was an easy lullaby (218). Summertime was an aria and it is somewhat attributed to Ira Gershwin. The song became a well-liked hit and to a great extent recorded jazz standard and its lyrics written by Dubose Heyward who is the author of novel porgy. This song was been labeled as on the classics by many and to a large extent a xenophobic minstrel by others. Regardless of Gershwin’s good will, Floyd exemplifies that George’s work was contentious and was damned for its so-called orthodox representation of the black American life (219).…

Rock art can be viewed as part of everyone’s cultural heritage or as part of a specific groups’ cultural heritage. It is this difference of thought that can cause much debate on who should have access to and how to manage rock art sites. One way to ensure that the heritage is preserved regardless of what happens to the rock art itself is to record the stories that go along with the art. “Collecting and archiving [stories], with due respect for the traditional owners and in accordance with their wishes about what can or cannot be published, is as much a duty as preserving the art and its natural and archeological contexts” (Clottes, 2008:6). There is just some knowledge that is not meant to be learned or recorded.…
