Madame President: My Junior Year Of High School

Decent Essays
Madame President. It was a common name I was called my junior year of high school. That is because during the school year of 2016-2017 I served as the Holland FFA President, as a junior a rather unheard of feat. Both of the presidents that served my freshman and sophomore years had been the respected seniors. I was scared, however, I had been elected to lead and I was going to do the best I could. In the past, the FFA Chapter had not been that successful. We had a pretty large group of kids in FFA, but many didn’t actively participate. My main goal for the year was to get people involved and excited about being in FFA and the agriculture industry. I am extremely proud to say that we had 1/3 of our members participate in FFA contests

"Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence" I have had many ups and downs over the course of my life thus far. One specific example of this took place during my freshman year of high school. When I started high school it was very challenging for me, partially due to the fact that; during this time, I was lazy, unmotivated and did not really take school seriously. This by far is one of my biggest regrets to this day. Who would ever think that not trying during my freshman year would continue to follow me throughout the course of my academic career.…

Someone once said, "Suffer the pain of discipline or suffer the pain of regret." This essentially means that discipline will be difficult to manage but it’s a finer choice than regretting your decisions later on. School can be difficult, but the pain of the self-command and devotion will get you much further in your education than lackadaisical and deprecate. It seems to me that future freshmen with a hard work ethic and commitment should attend Early College High School because it saves the student time, money and you provides a safe atmosphere with a supportive audience. Not only is Early College High School a free program…

Although you have to be 36 years old to legally become the president of the United States, I feel as if I’ve experienced an aspect of presidency in my fourteenth year of living. Of course, it is obvious that being president of my middle school’s National Junior Honor Society is nowhere near being the president of the United States. But in fact, my experience depicts a quite harrowing and concerning aspect of presidency. In an interwoven city and school, creating close relationships was inevitable.…

I earned my first leadership role at the age of two. At that age, I became my sister’s role model. It was up to me to teach her the tricks of the trade for everything-- from tying her shoes to studying for her first math test. Although I didn’t have any designated leadership positions during my early years of high school, it was the similarly intimate, accidental moments of leadership that colored my participation in my extracurriculars.…

My fellow officers and myself worked together to plan an exciting night to educate members of Section 20 about opportunities as well as teach leadership skills. I had the privilege to be the leader in my workshop where members participated in an activity which taught the participants the importance of communication and how to cope with obstacles that can arrive in FFA, school, and life. From holding these positions, I have also assisted at the State Fair by walking in the parade with other members as well as assist in running the FFA barnyard. These allowed me to discuss and inform children and adults about the agriculture industry and FFA. I have gained amazing experiences throughout the FFA…

The semester before my freshman year I applied to an early college high school; I knew that I was going to have more work than if I had went to the traditional high school, but I knew I could do it. At first I was doing well, but as time went on the work became more challenging and frequent eventually my grades fell and took my pride with it. I wanted to transfer to the traditional high school in my neighborhood, but changed my mind after a talk with one of my professors. She helped me to recognize that if I quit not only would I be throwing away the work that I did do, but I’d also be preventing myself from seeing what work I could do. I took that seed of information and turned it into a tree of motivation.…

American high schools must prepare students to succeed in a competitive world. But the intensely competitive process of selecting a class valedictorian hurts students more than it helps them. Most high schools have only one valedictorian, which often leads to bitter competition among high-achieving students.
