Madame DeFarge is a main character in Charles Dicken’s “A Tale of Two Cities”. Madame DeFarge’s list of good morals, is very short, to non exstitent. She enjoys sitting and knitting while watching the heads of innocent people be chopped off. By making Madame DeFarge enjoy the chopping off of heads, Charles Dickens is showing how everyday, and mundane the French Revolution became. People like Madame DeFarge, found it entertaining. Madame DeFarge is an unjust woman, she take pleasure in seeing the innocent’s head sliced off. Why does Madame DeFarge enjoy this? Why does she seem to be so cold and open to the guillotine and it’s methods? Most people are not mean, bitter, and blood thirsty for no reason. Jerry is bank messenger by day, and an illegal grave digger by night. He is mad at his wife, because she is praying for him to stop digging up graves. He is mad at her because this is how he earns a living, and does not want to stop even though he knows it is illegal. Jerry calls himself an “Honest Tradesman” this is his cover name for the grave digging he does. There is a conversation in “A Tale of Two Cities” which is a turning point for Jerry Cruncher. Jerry Cruncher is talking to John Barsad who says that Cly is dead, Barsad buried Cly himself. Jerry Cruncher asked who took him out of the coffin, what do you mean says Barsad? Jerry Cruncher dug up the grave of Cly, and all that was in the coffin was paving stones, and earth. Barsad did not actually burry Cly. Jerry Cruncher turned himself in as he told that he dug up the grave, revealing that he was an illegal grave digger. Jerry Cruncher risked his life in order to reveal Barsad’s …show more content…
Sydney Carton is a drunkard, lazy bum of a man. He knows that he is a smart man, but does not care enough about it to do anything about it. He would rather drink, and doing whatever he pleases instead of making a living. Sydney Carton loves a woman by the name of Luccie Darney, but he knows that she is to good for him, and that he does not worthy a woman like her. So he watches Luccie marry a man named Charles Darney. Not long after Charles and Luccie and married, Charles is falsely convicted, and ends up in prison. Luccie is beside herself. And right before Charles is taken to the guillotine, Sydney decided to switch places with Charles. He and Charles look quite alike, and Sydney takes the place of Charles. He would rather himself die, and give Luccie her husband back, then see Charles die. Sydney calmly goes to the guillotine. Everyone watches as Sydney Carton dies. Luccie was so happy to have her husband back after his time in prison. And when she became pregnant and gave birth to a child, she and Charles decided that in honor of Sydney giving his life for them, they named their child after Sydney
