Hello and good afternoon to everyone here. My name Madame C.J. Walker and I was born named Sarah Breedlove on December 23, 1867 in Delta, Louisiana. My parents are Owen and Minerva Breedlove. I am the fifth of my brothers and sisters. I was the first person in my family to be free-born meaning not born a slave. During the 1890s, I started to develop a scalp disorder that caused me to lose most of my hair. I realized that I wanted to experiment with homemade and store-bought treatments to help my hair grow back. In 1905, I was hired by Annie Turnbo Malone, a hair care entrepreneur, as a commission agent. My husband, Charles, helped my advertise a hair care treatment for African Americans.
