Mad Max” gets an even more mad reboot

“Mad Max” was originally a movie released in Australia made by director George Miller in 1979. Shortly after, the sequel, The Road Warrior was released in 1981. Both movies received relatively positive scores and reviews all around. In 1985, the third movie, “Thunderdome”, was released. It got decent scores, but it was obvious that this franchise was losing steam. Fast forward 30 years, to the year 2015. Mad Max: Fury Road is released. How does this movie stand up against it’s critically acclaimed predecessors?
“Mad Max: Fury Road” doesn’t waste time with story; it throws you straight into the action with little to no detail, aside from a few vague snapshots of the main character, Max Rockatansky’s,

The movie High Noon written by Carl Foreman and the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell are very similar yet very different at the same time. In High Noon the main character Will Kane is conflicted with many miniature conflicts, but the main one is he has to take down Frank Miller and his possy. On the other side in the story “The Most Dangerous Game”, the protagonist Rainsford gets stranded on an island, and then is hunted by a man named Zaroff who is a superb hunter and Rainsford has to survive a hunt against him. “The Most Dangerous Game” and High Noon are different in their own ways, but they also share similarities in its main characters, they are also similar in the conflicts and different in settings. In both the short story and the movie conflicts are presented, but all those little conflicts add up to the…

The three films, Metropolis (1927) by Fritz Lang, Blade Runner (1982) by Ridley Scott, and The Matrix (1999) by The Wachowski Brothers, have explored the theme humanity in the futuristic society where the machines and technology has advanced with social values and conventions different from our real present world. These three movies with their retrospective ideologies and themes have all one thing in common- the films presents the people of the futuristic society as blurred between being human and machine. I plan to first watch all three films before finding materials that will be necessary for this paper, such as reviews by film critics, documentaries (including other materials such as interviews), and books and research papers regarding…

On the first page of Thunder at the Gates it says, “A nation does not know it’s strength until tested by calamity.” This statement, repeated continuously throughout history, begins the story of the 54th and 55th Massachusetts Infantry and the 5th Massachusetts Cavalry. The author, Douglas R. Egerton, tells the story of some of the most fiercest fighters of the civil war, the all African American regiments of the Massachusetts infantry and how, as they fought for the union, they strived for the right to be considered a person. The book Thunder at the Gates tells the story of the nearly 200,000 men who fought for 3 Massachusetts regiments during the civil war.…

Walter Salles’s 1998 drama “Central Station” was a movie that was hard to fit into a specific category. While it weighed heavy on the dramatic side, there were elements of comedy and thriller that made the film very different from any normal film about two people. The film drifted between various sub-genres, but the movie felt more like a mix between a road movie, an odd buddy film, and a complex relationship study. If we focus mostly on the setting on the film, the film feels a lot like your standard road movie. We have a rambunctious couple traveling across their country to meet their goals.…

A deliberately paced epic that closes the trilogy on a high note, War for the Planet of the Apes is not only one of the smartest movies of the year, it's possibly the best film of the summer. When Rise of the Planet of the Apes was announced, no one could have imagined how good the reinvention of the classic sci-fi franchise would turn out to be. And it only got better when Matt Reeves' Dawn of the Planet of the Apes took the series even further into that rarest of places: a reboot that raised the stakes of quality even higher than its source materials. So naturally the expectation was that War for the Planet of the Apes would be a finale that would under perform, as most third films do.…

Zeus, the king of gods, believes that the mortal’s conflicts should be left to chance and without the god’s intervention. However Thetis, mother of Achilles, calls in a favor from Zeus to help Achilles revenge on Agamemnon. In the beginning Zeus favors the Trojans by helping them destroy the Greek fleet before helping the Greeks for the rest of the war. Just like mortals, gods have conflicts of their own. For example, Hera and Athena disagree with Zeus’s decision to help the Trojans in the war.…

Compared to the last few years, 2015 provided a slew of eye-popping, entertaining movies. Obviously, Star Wars has completely overshadowed anything and everything else that’s out there at the moment – but from the big budget summer spectaculars to the lesser-appreciated indie flicks, there was a lot to love throughout the year. And, a lot to hate, as well… First things first, plenty of hard-hitting records were set – possibly none more impressive than the those established by Jurassic World. Now, before you laugh even more than you probably already did, bare in mind that it was nearly impossible for anyone to predict the vast amount of carnage the return of the dinosaurs would unleash. Oh, and it’s only the third highest grossing movie…

If one was to be trapped on Ship-Trap Island, the chances of he or she making it out of the island alive are slim to none. Whether you are reading the story or watching the movie this fact reigns true in both. The Most Dangerous Game is a short story that was written in 1924 by Richard Connell. The story was later adapted into a movie with the same title in 1932. Both versions of the story use the same character names for the main characters and also have a very similar plot however one can see that there is many differences between the film adaptation and the short story.…

The directing is top-notch for both movies, and the production was aimed to deliver every picture as close to reality as possible. Fast and Furious 7 uses variety of heavy weaponry throughout the movie; handguns, rifles, snipers, RPG-7, machine guns, a drone equipped with a Minigun, and even a chopper equipped with machine guns and launchers. Beside the chopper, the heaviest weapon used in the movie by an actor was the Minigun from the drone wreckage, which was used by Dwayne Johnson. Almost all of Fast 7 cast members were involved in some fight scene. Jason Statham collided heavily with Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson.…

Mad Max: Fury Road is a spectacular film, and while it may not seem to be the most thought-provoking movie, there is a lot of hidden depth that can be discovered. Performing more than just a cursory viewing allows one to see the hidden themes and ideals presented in a seemingly vacuous movie, and looking past the dust and explosions allows one to see the characters develop along with the setting and landscape. The most prolific use of imagery in this movie is not even in the visual effects, which are spectacular, but in the sound. The visual effects, however, influence the movie nearly as much, from the specific color choice to the landscape and its specificities. Sound, and it’s absence, is a very powerful thing.…
