Personal Evaluation

As a company, I believe Macy’s, Inc. is doing well financially, but it can aim to do better. I greatly appreciate its values and corporate culture with an emphasis on social responsibility, transparency, and obligations to employees and customers. However, it is lacking in that it has failed to reach out to multiple global markets which makes it vulnerable to economic risk. Furthermore, its products do not have a wide range of pricing variety because of its emphasis on private, designer name brands. While the company is trying to reach out into online retail, it is not being innovative and creative enough to keep customer loyalty from the new generations who demand reasonably priced clothing that they can shop for in the

Both Costco Wholesale Corporation and Macy’s, Inc. have headquarters out-of-state, so working there would require relocation of some sort. However, because Costco Wholesale Corporation has a larger international presence, I would have a better chance of moving to another country to work versus if I chose to work at Macy’s, Inc.. Because I love exploring different cultures, this is a factor on which Costco prevails. As for company size, both firms are very large—not the medium-sized company for which I had aspired. Yet, I would rather work at a large corporation than a small …show more content…
Macy’s, Inc., has many of the same products, but does not provide food as well as most of the services Costco Wholesale does. Along with that, Macy’s, Inc. also emphasizes the name brands they provide and sell, which very often are at a premium price that not all people can afford, limiting their market size significantly. While both companies have e-commerce websites for consumers to use, I believe they are both lacking and require additional development when compared to online retailers like Amazon. Both companies can boast customer loyalty as a strength as well as strong financial performance. They also both face weaknesses against business seasonality and dependence on geographic concentrations. While both can realize the opportunities to develop their presence in online retail, Costco seems to have more opportunities for success, considering that they are more internationally-inclined than Macy’s, Inc.. For the same reasons, economic instability in the US threatens Macy’s, Inc. even more than Costco since Macy’s, Inc. has a strong dependence on US sales for

I have shopped at Costco before. I believe that Costco has the same concept as Sams Club, Target, and Walmart and carries similar merchandise as these other big box retailers; however, Costco does win the cake for overall size and bulk of merchandise. Costco’s policies and strategies are much different than those of Sams Club, Target, Walmart, etc. The reason why I do shop at Costco and value Costco is their ability to provide quality products at the most cost-effective price point. They minimalize their profit margin to bring a cost-effective solution to their customers.…

It is certain that stores have the ability to sell popular culture through their products and merchandise, but not many of them can say that they conduct their own national Thanksgiving Day Parade. The store not only carries a variety of products, but also a variety of brands, allowing a wide range of customers to be able to shop there. Intensity of rivalry. With some clear leaders in the online retail industry, there is an intense rivalry among them. An important factor to consider is the industry costs, which is something that encourages the competition to reduce prices to gain the market. The rivalry is greater due to the fact that there’s no switching costs and no product differentiation or no commodity products. Competitors in this industry have developed strong growth strategies along with huge capital investment, which creates an exit barrier and puts them on greater rivalry.…
