While not a large area with the open concept layout plan, there is the illusion of space along with all the little color tiling and white ceilings. It also allows for there to be a much lighter feeling in the space even though its underground. This is a positive for the store because it is underground so bringing in light features to keep it feeling clean and light is ideal for shopping. The aisles are wide which is beneficial to families for keeping children in control or pushing around strollers. There are large signs that signify where objects are so it is easy to follow them. It is hard to get lost in side because of the open floor concept which is a plus because for families with small children this could be a major concern. The first item that is seen is an area call “center stage” which is where loud music is being played and it shows some of the feature products and is the most important part of the store. It has both pros and cons to it. It is first of all an interesting way to attract customers into the store who were unsure if they were going to want to go in because of the aesthetically pleasing look it brings along with an air of high-quality at good prices. On the other hand, though it is pleasing and can reel in customers, it can be a little off putting with the loud music and items that are seen as more knick-knacks on display. These include the stock room, bathrooms and dressing rooms. The stock room is an area that is not designed for public use but when the door is open it is possible to peek in and see the world and workers behind the functioning of the store. The stock room is clean and well maintained which adds an air of confidence in the employees and in the store itself. The bathrooms are an important part of the store because they are the biggest encouragement for shoppers to shop longer. In Macy’s Backstage, there are the men’s and women’s bathroom in the back of the store. This is a plus because the customer has to walk all throughout the store before finding the bathrooms which in turn increases shopping. The negatives of the bathrooms are that they are a bit run down and dirty with lack of toilet paper and a broken hand dryer. Another less positive concept with the bathrooms are there are anti-theft detectors in the area right before the bathrooms along with the bathrooms being locked. To improve the bathrooms, little updates to the appliances and the design would aid in creating a comfortable shopping experience. Having a staff member look over the bathrooms instead of detectors or locks makes for more friendly interaction with the store and also detracts from stealing. The dressing rooms of Macy’s backstage are
