Macromolecule Meal Plan Project
The diet/meal plan I chose was the Mediterranean diet. The goal of the mediterranean diet is to lower the amount unsaturated fat consumed and replace them with that of saturated fats. Another end goal of the mediterranean diet is to lower risk of health problems such as cardiovascular disease and cancer by changing the type and amount of fats being consumed which can cause a longer life. The layout diet consist of first eat 5 to 10 servings a day of fruit, for healthy fats food such as olives and olive oil are essential, ther serving size for this should be about four to six servings per day. An example of this is 1 tsp. Of olive oil, 5 olives, or ⅛ of an avocado. The reason …show more content…
The protein provided by the diet consist of fish and eggs. The fish should be eaten in serving sizes of 4 -oz two to three times a week, lean meat and poultry are acceptable in this diet but must be eaten in a moderation. Picked seeds, nuts, and legumes, these act as a source of protein and fiber as well. Antioxidants and fats are provided with the nuts and seeds. The serving for this is having ½ cup of cooked legumes, this is found in hummus or lentil soup which should be taken at least twice a week with a daily dose of nuts in small servings such as 1 Tbsp. For dairy intake use food such as cultured milk, yogurt, and curd cheese such as ricotta. These foods contain beneficial bacteria which cause digestion to improve, these should be put in one to three servings daily, an example 1 cup of milk or yogurt or 1 oz. of cheese. With the grain intake whole grain bread is the best, for portions have four small daily portions of whole-wheat bread or pasta made of quinoa, the grains must also be eaten with proteins and healthy fats as well as fermented grains cause easier digestion and increase nutrient absorption. The role of the macromolecule of carbohydrate in this diet is that the carbohydrates are used as quick energy sources which is …show more content…
This allows the quick access of energy through these small meals. The role of the carbohydrates in this diet are also that catalyst which causes easier digestion and better nutrient absorption through fermented grains. The use of lipids in the mediterranean diet are that of monounsaturated fats and polyphenols. The use of monounsaturated fats is to replace and be a healthy alternative to that of trans fats and polyunsaturated fats which are found in most processed foods. The monounsaturated fats create a decreased risk for breast cancer, reduced cholesterol levels, lower risk of heart disease and stroke, weight loss, and reduced belly fat. The lipids in this are natural and usually not refined. Proteins in the mediterranean diet are that of fish, nuts, seeds, eggs, and legumes. The proteins in this diet create balance between the lipids and carbohydrates as well as providing vitamin c through antioxidants. Nucleic acids were seen in the diet with foods such as cultured milk and fish, fish being high in levels of nucleic acids. The nucleic acids in the diet are converted into uric acid and enter the blood and urine, they can
