The cavern displays the Inca’s excellent masonry work. The walls are perfectly aligned and carved in stone. It was thought to house the mummified corpses of the most elite members of the Inca aristocracy. An adjacent building still has an early drain and sewage system. This leads people to believe that it was once a shed used to breed alpacas and llamas. These animals still roam the grounds today! The shed leads to a secluded chamber with a balcony that overlooks the city and provides the viewer with a stunning view of the area.
Machu Picchu contained housing for the upper class, religious shrines, beautiful fountains, and intricate terraces. The Inca people were able to build extraordinary buildings that can still be appreciated from the ruins there today.
