Machu Picchu was found in July of 1911 by American explorer Hiram Bingham. He looked for weeks and couldn’t find anything, but then he moved some bushes and saw Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu lies about 2 thousand feet above the Urubamba River, which is rushing. Bingham couldn’t believe the sight he saw. It was ruins of Machu Picchu. The larger blocks that built these ruins had to weigh 10-15 pounds. How were they moved? Did they stay together without the application of mortar? Bingham thought he found it - that’s until he found another civilization. A few days later, Bingham came upon another set of ruins. These ruins laid about 60 miles away from Machu Picchu and it was larger. Bingham believed this site was Vilcabamba. Soon after, Bingham
