“The art of leadership... consists in consolidating the attention of the people against a single adversary and taking care that nothing will split up that attention” (Adolf Hitler). Hitler was a great example of what not to do as a leader. As the leader of Germany, Hitler led the nation into two world wars, making him one of the most evil authoritative leaders in history. The way a leader can rule is with authority. This means [he] dictates policies and procedures, decides what goals are to be achieved, and directs and controls all activities without any meaningful participation by the subordinates (businessdictionary.com). This statement is false due to the fact that it uses fear to be a leader and it gives more power to the leadership acting as a dictatorship. The use of an authoritative leadership is false and not more effective is because of the fear aspect of it. In The Prince, the author states: “ it is much safer to be feared than loved” (Machiavelli). In this line, Machiavelli believes a leader is safer when they are feared than when loved, this isn't ideal because one will obey out of fear which would lead to a dictatorship and a power hungry leader. In the same way, Crace believes: “...some employees demonstrate the same type of behavior. This is why enforcing the rules, regulations and procedures that have been put in place is so important” (Crace). In the excerpt of the, Five Similarities Between Leadership and Parenting, it allows for Crace to say that discipline is needed for a leader to keep in control and take matters into their own hands. Clearly, when a leader rules with authority it will never be as effective as one might do in a collaborative …show more content…
With this assertion it can be supported by the quotations of the video, Machiavelli, Crace, and Macbeth. The fourteenth amendment is a good example as to collaborative is being shown, it shows the rights that the people have to be a citizen and what can't be taken away from them. Often in life, one might want to become a leader of some sort, and they will have to learn that leading others in a direction must be done with collaboration of the others and not like a

From my assessment results, the outcome stated that I was in agreement with 10/13 questions. I was somewhat hesitant in reading the result, but was pleasantly surprise to see that it was completely different from what I thought the outcome was going to be, based on Machiavelli’s readings. After reading the results, I agreed where it states that no one thing is completely right or completely wrong, for an individual must be open to new thoughts; they should be able to see and take risk into that which is unfamiliar, or not favored, in-order to make possibilities a reality. Bedell, Huter, Angie & Vert (2006) stated that the Mach scale determines the extent to which respondents agree with Machiavelli's statements, on how a leader should act…

Humans practice the art of imitation, by mimicking other human beings. This is something that is so simple, something that is done subconsciously and yet something that is almost a necessity for survival for humans and animals. An elevator experiment was conducted at Bethany Lutheran College; in this experiment students were facing the opposite direction when the doors opened. The majority of the test subjects stepping onto the elevator followed suit and faced the opposite wall, even though this is not the normal standards. This study proves that humans feel the need to conform to society even when they know they are stepping outside the realm of the usual procedure.…

For the last several years, I have tried to answer the question of what makes someone a leader. I once viewed a leader as someone with a position of power, who commands those under them to achieve victory. I have since discovered that this is not what makes a leader a leader. I found that not every person with power is a leader. I grew enough to notice what I could not before: people’s motives.…

A controversial issue has been whether “a man who wishes to make a vocation of being good at all times will come to ruin among so many who are not good. Hence it is necessary for a prince [political leader] who wishes to maintain his position to learn how not to be good, and to use this knowledge or not to use it according to necessity” (670). Throughout history, there has been an enormous amount of leadership figures—both good and bad. One of the most famous is Martin Luther King Jr.--the leader of the African-American civil rights movement. He is best known for his role in the advancement of civil rights using nonviolent disobedience. I do not agree with Machiavelli's statement for a few reasons. The main reason I disagree is because Machiavelli's idea of peace seems to fall into the category of nonviolence and a lower crime rate. However, I do not think that this is the full peace that a nation should have. There may be "peace" just because people fear disobeying the tyrant or the power, but that does not ensure that there is actual peace and happiness in the everyday lives of the citizens. Tyranny cannot be justified if it keeps the peace, and in my opinion, it is a fake form of peace anyway.…

When one thinks about popular leaders like Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Rosa Parks, and even unpopular leaders, Napoleon and Hitler. These leaders did not simply lead a group of people, there was more to their action. Each of these of these leaders have left a legacy for us to study, the actions they took to accomplish the goals they reached are the road map that we look at to see what makes a good leader behind good leadership.…

In “The Prince” Machiavelli outlines how best to attain and maintain political and military power on a grand scale among the various types of principalities. He argues that the ideal ruler, particularly one who is new to the position, should exercise a carefully balanced amalgam of what he refers to as the “five qualities”: compassion, trustworthiness, sympathy, honesty, and religiosity, in addition to calculated cruelty as necessary, and unyielding command over, and self reliance in all matters of state and military. These qualities if deployed correctly, will exact fear and respect from citizens and militaries both foreign and domestic, both of which are imperative to preventing rebellion, invasion, and the hate that Machiavelli argues is…

Some people think leaders are born with a trait that innately makes them leaders, while others theorize that it is a characteristic of an individual, but we have learned that leaders are a product of their development and life experiences. Leaders are concerned with understanding people’s beliefs and gaining their commitment. They function without focusing on the opinions of others, which allows them to think of new ideas and motivate others to develop these…
