Macbeth was such a brave, ambitious, and somewhat humble warrior at the beginning of the play. What happened? As we see in many tragedies, the heroes’ traits are often the cause of their downfall. This is much the same as in Macbeth. Our protagonist, Macbeth, is a brave ambitious warrior, but it’s that same ambition that inevitably kills him, when he gets too power hungry and murders king Duncan. Albeit with some pushing from Lady Macbeth, but nevertheless, it was ultimately his decision on whether he should go through with it. He bounces through a vicious cycle of killing people to secure his throne, and then feeling guilt and remorse afterwards. A result of his actions is noticeable as he changes over time, and that’s where we start off. …show more content…
The Sergeant had nothing but nice words to say about Macbeth’s bravery in battle, which led to King Duncan crowning Macbeth Thane of Cawdor. Macbeth started to change the way he thought a bit when he encountered the Three Witches for the first time with Banquo. ‘All hail Macbeth, hail to thee, thane of Cawdor (this being before Macbeth knew of his new title), All hail Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter’ (1.3.48). When Duncan Ross tells him that Duncan has named him Thane of Cawdor, Macbeth begins to think of the prophecy the witches told him and remembers them mention that he will be king soon after being named Thane of Cawdor. With the King coming over the next night, it would make sense to… but who was Macbeth kidding, he couldn’t kill Duncan, especially after he presented him with the honour of being Thane of Cawdor.
