In the beginning of the play, Macbeth was introduced as a well liked, moral, and brave man. MacBeth fought for his county, Scotland and won recognition for the defeat of the King of Norway. He was recognized for his bravery when he killed the leader of Norway, Macdonwald. This ended the battle making King Duncan very fond of Macbeth. The King rewarded Macbeth by killing the disloyal Thane of Cawdor and giving it to MacBeth. MacBeth responds to King Duncan, “The service and the loyalty I owe in doing it pays itself.” (1.4.25-26) This quote shows that MacBeth is loyal as he explained to the King that he doesn’t need to be thanked for his bravery in battle.
