MACBETH ESSAY The story of Macbeth is a tragedy written by Shakespeare in the early seventeenth century that highly regards the concept of human desire. People will often overlook moral values for there own greed. The antagonist Macbeth, who is also the main character, allows his passionate yearn for power to inhibit his morals. Macbeth becomes increasingly malicious and brutal, as seen throughout the play. His ruthlessness is revealed in the text where he executes maniacal action merely for his own good, knowingly discards his ethics, and repeats behavior without benevolence. Macbeth’s inhumanity is identified during the story when he carries out heartless deeds, exclusively for his own benefit. Macbeth is hungry to assume Duncan’s role as King of Scotland, and feels that his only option is to murder him. Although he has hesitations, Macbeth follows through with his scheme due to the help of Lady Macbeth’s courage. In his soliloquy, Macbeth says, This quote displays the initial time of which Macbeth let go of all the morals he knows are valuable, which was the catalyst of Macbeth’s brutality. Lady Macbeth, also yearning for power, wrongfully lead Macbeth to the idea that it was okay for Macbeth to commit murders such as this one. Furthermore, Macbeth’s ignorance of morals is seen in his conversation with the murderers when he plans the slaughter of Banquo. Macbeth tells the murderers, Macbeth is telling the murderers that as long as Banquo is alive, Macbeth is sick, and he will only be pleased and well once Banquo is dead.
