A tragic hero is a virtuous character in a dramatic tragedy who is destined for downfall and defeat. However, Shakespeare enhances this definition in his books by creating a character that has a tragic flaw in his personality; a specific flaw that changes their entire character and surprises most readers. In the play, “Macbeth” by William Shakespeare, Macbeth demonstrates his change in character throughout his soliloquy in Act 3, Scene 1. At the start of the play, three witches prophesize that Macbeth will become the future King of Scotland and Banquo’s children shall be in the line of kings after Macbeth. When Macbeth hears of this he does not believe it until another prophecy they told happens to him and he becomes Thane of Cawdor. After
