Macbeth: The Purpose Of A Tragic Hero

The purpose of a tragic hero is to evoke emotion into the audience which thus creates emotions such as pity and fear, consequently causing the audience to experience abreaction. There have been various tragic heroes that have been presented in Shakespeare’s work and Macbeth is a classic example. Macbeth has various characteristics that ultimately lead to his downfall. The character discovers the true nature of his own situation, a critical discovery that completely alters the circumstances he is in. Finally, Macbeth will lose his life in the end of the play so the message of what is good in the play can be re-established.
In the beginning of the play Macbeth is classed higher in political importance as he was given the title of Thame of Glamis
