Macbeth Lord Of The Flies Quote Analysis

Throughout the semester we have read many texts including Macbeth by William Shakespeare, Lord Of The Flies by William Golding and Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. In all three of these texts, the theme of external evil being inside you all along is prevalent. Such as in Lord Of The Flies by William Golding, the beast which was thought to inhabit the island the boys were stranded in turned out to be a figment of one of the boys' imagination “Beastie. A snake thing ever so big he saw it. Where?. In the woods.” (lord of the flies, 34) “you couldn't have a beastie a snake thing on an island this size.” (lord of the flies, 34) even though some of the boys believed Ralph some of the boys went hunting for the beast. Another example proving this quote is in the plot of Macbeth. After Macbeth and Lady Macbeth got away with murdering the king and obtaining his power they are slowly driven to insanity. This is shown in act 5 after he murders Banquo and sees a ghost. In act 3 Macbeth goes to see the witches and demonstrates that he is going insane when he says “I conjure you, by that which you profess, howe’er you come to know it, answer me:” (Macbeth, 4.1, 51-52). In addition in the plot of the novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston the use of the idea of god and good vs evil work very effectively to intrigue the reader and keep the reader hooked. It is also used very well in character development such as with the main character of the book. As she goes through many different marriages and divorces while on her pursuit of true love. The quote “we are each our own devil and we make this world our hell.” by Oscar Wilde ties into many parts of the theme of Macbeth, Lord Of The Flies and Their Eyes Were Watching …show more content…
Some real-world connections to this quote are when a person has a fear of something imaginary such as a monster or a beastie from Lord Of The Flies. A fear of something that does not exist is inside you and depending on the fear we may limit ourselves from doing things associated with that fear. Another example is a fear of heights may stop a person going on a rollercoaster as it goes high. A fear like that can limit someone from having fun with their friends. In addition, crimes can also connect to this quote as sometimes good people make mistakes in life and as a result of those mistakes, they ruin their lives forever. Further on Donald Trump is also a real-world connection to this quote as he is a very controversial political leader. He surprised everyone when he won the election and became president. Some people do not agree with his laws and policies and even think they are evil. Politics is also a very controversial topic some people even consider it as evil while claiming it does no good for the country. This is seen all around the world such as North Korea. Where the leader lives in a nice mansion and has many privileges while many of the citizens live in

“Men go to far greater lengths to avoid what they fear than to obtain what they desire.” ~ Dan Brown, The Da Vinci Code In The Odyssey, Homer utilizes characterization to validate that fear is often the root of temptation. For example he states, “I will not share your bed unless you swear the mighty oath, o goddess – to insure that you’ll forgo any thoughts of further plots.” (Homer 10.342-344) Odysseus is normally a good man but, like many men, he fears the Gods. Macbeth: Deep Thoughts Yes, I believe that one selfish impulse could lead to a chain of decisions that can reflect on you with lots of pain and anguish. All the time I see people making poor, selfish decisions. I see it in movies, in real life, on T.V shows, and I also read about it in books. Each and every one of us has a conflict inside ourselves, the conflict between good and evil. It can consume us until a side is chosen to prevail, leaving the other in the dust. This is much like how it is in the world and in the play Macbeth. In Macbeth, there is a fight between characters to see which will prevail, good or evil. In Macbeth, William Shakespeare uses iambic pentameters and motifs to convey the message that good will always prevail over the likes of evil.…
