Shakespeare uses important events in the play to highlight the interesting characteristics of the main characters. Although Macbeth has many personalities, evolving consistently, the play reveals many intriguing characters. Each of them possesses qualities that make them unique. Lady Macbeth is an ambitious woman, yet as the plot unfolds, she becomes the exact opposite compared to her character in the beginning of the play . Also, Banquo is a character who remains pure throughout the play. When faced with the truth of the prophecies, he resists temptations, whereas Macbeth over analyzes the situation. Using a wide variety of different characteristics, Shakespeare lets on that there is more to the play than Macbeth himself. Although Macbeth has excessive ambition, it did not end up changing how he felt about power, whereas Lady Macbeth was driven to insanity because of this characteristic that she too possessed. She was ambitious and clever, yet in the end she dies because of this. In this play, even the good characters come to an ill fate and Banquo is one of these characters; his loyalty remained intact up until his death. The Witches speak in a strange language and they lead Macbeth to believe partial truths. They are characters who are bizarre and this is why they are so appealing. Each one of these characters becomes interesting through important events that occur in the play.
