Macbeth Fair And Foul Is Fair

One of the most popular lines from the playwright “Macbeth” is: Fair is foul, and foul is fair. That line could be used to describe the character Macbeth. Macbeth, the main character from Shakespeare's play Macbeth, was a much respected person in the beginning of the story and turned into a very cruel person and was hated by everyone towards the end. At the beginning of the play Macbeth was the thane of Glamis and fought for King Duncan, because of that he was respected by everyone. After the fight King Duncan named Macbeth the thane of Cawdor and three witches told him that he was going to become king. Macbeth would then do anything to become and stay king. Macbeth’s ambition is what lead to his fall. Creon a character from Sophocles' Antigone also had a similar story. Creon became king when his nephews, who took turns at being king, killed each other and he was next in line. The problems started when Creon said that Polyneices, one of his nephews, will not be buried because he went against his country. Macbeth was so determined to do whatever possible to become and stay king. Macbeth was unsure of killing Duncan at first, but Lady Macbeth pushed him over the edge and persuaded him into doing it. She constantly questioned his manhood, " When you durst do it, then you were a man; And, to be more than what you were, you would be so much more than man."(1.7.49-51) Lady Macbeth really got into his head and mad him kill King Duncan. Once King Duncan was gone Macbeth finally became king and that is when his ambition kicked in, doing anything possible to stay king. "Thou art the best o'th' cut-throats. Yet he's good that did the like for Fleance: if thou didst it, thou art nonpareil."(3.4.18-20) Macbeth had sent murderers to kill Banquo and Fleance because he thought they would catch on to him.
