Macbeth is Thane of Glamis then named Thane of Cawdor by his King. Duncan chose to name Macbeth the highest Thane for being that of a nobleman. After being named Thane of Cawdor, Macbeth believes that he is the next step to becoming the next King of the Scots, but there is someone who stands in his way of that title. Duncan names his son Malcolm the Prince of Cumberland who would now be the next in line to becoming King. Macbeth now is angry and has to come up with a way to jump him and become the next in line for becoming King (Critical Evaluation). Macbeth goes back to the prophecies of the witches that will lead him to killing King Duncan. King Duncan is one who is a generous kind man and is respected by many of the people of Scotland. Duncan puts the needs of Scotland above his own needs and provides unity to his kingdom. Duncan is that kind of person who feels love and care for many. Knowing the witches prophecies, Macbeth is now ready to kill Duncan to get the title of being a King. Becoming King is something that Macbeth wants, but also his wife wants Macbeth to become king so that she could be the new Queen of Scotland (Thane/Define). The evening that King Duncan is invited by Macbeth to his castle will be the last time that King Duncan will ever see day. After feasting and Duncan gets in bed, Lady Macbeth makes the guards of the chamber drunk so they would be the blame of Duncan’s death. Macbeth now goes into Duncan’s room and murders him while he is asleep (Macbeth at a glance). When Macbeth forfeited his soul with the murder of King Duncan, he committed a bad crime and also lied about it which made it even worse to deal with (Mabillard, Amanda). Killing King Duncan makes things very mysterious to many. Now that Duncan is dead and his son Malcolm flees to England, Macbeth becomes the new King of Scotland like he has wanted. Although Macbeth has the title he has been wanting, he feels threatened by Banquo because of the witches’ prophecies told to him. The prophecy that was told to Banquo was that he would not be able to be the next king of Scotland, but that he would father the future kings of Scotland, meaning that Banquo’s sons would become King one day also. Macbeth feels now his title of King could be taken from him. Macbeth sends for Banquo and his son Flence to be killed so that Flence could not becoming King and try to kill Macbeth for the title.
