The films that were shown such as Roman Polanski, Philip Casson and Rupert Goold had their own techniques of interpreting Macbeth. In this instance, for Act 1 Scene 1 when looking at the witches, all three film clips are focused on the shots to emphasize the witches. For Act 2 Scene 2 when the clips are showing the post murder meeting of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth all films were mainly assimilated on the shots for a visually reference. And lastly. Act 5 Scene 1, the films mainly highlight the actions and lighting aspects of the clip. All three films are effective in their own way. The films show …show more content…
Beginning with the Roman Polanski film, Polanski was able to give viewers a glance on Lady Macbeth actions and what the lighting was able to portray. In the text she says “Wash put on your nightgown, look not so pale. I tell you again, Banquo’s buried. He cannot come out on’s grave” (Shakespeare 5, 1, 61 - 63). In Polanski film, Lady Macbeth seemed like she was hallucinating in her sleep. Walking around naked, there was only one light that really made her stand out. Though the lighting very dark and gave it a an eerie glow her sleepwalking actions had made the scene look effectively as it was described in the text. In the Philip Casson film, Lady Macbeth didn’t seem as if she was sleepwalking, but more like she was afraid of something. The lighting of the scene had focused on her face as her face is viewed with much emotions and grief. Lastly, in the Rupert Goold film, The lighting of the film is mainly focused on her. As the Doctor and the Gentlewomen are aside from her in the dark, the whole scene has much of it focus on Lady Macbeth and her actions. The light also put its focus on her hands as she tries to wash her confessions away. One thing that all the film have in common is have dark they portray the scene. Though there’s some type of light to show Lady Macbeth’s actions, there was always darkness in the scenes maybe to symbolize how deep she was in her feelings. These three film had a way of providing finding meaning through the lighting and actions through Act 5 Scene

Many times in the play we see people request darkness to commit an evil act. One of the most important instances of this is when Macbeth says "Stars, hide your fires/ let not light see my black and deep desires/ the eye wink at the hand/ yet let that be, which the eye fears, when it is done, to see" (1.4.50-53). This is Macbeth requesting…

Between films and books, it is often seen how different the films tend to be in comparison with the real book story. In the play Macbeth, written by Shakespeare, and the 2015 movie of Macbeth, directed by Justin Kurzel, there are major differences seen. Although the film and the play share many similarities, the changes in the plot that occur during the movie change the flow and results of the situations occurring within the play. In the movie, Justin Kurzel takes away the psychological power Lady Macbeth has over different events, gives a different view of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, and the plot twist caused by Malcolm’s actions. Macbeth the film and Macbeth the play, show how a movie can differ from the actual message and mood the original author is in reality giving.…

By setting the three witches in the morgue, they appear to be nurses simply doing their jobs and not creating a bubbling concoction that Shakespeare originally intended. The bright clouded lighting behind the witches, though, contrasts the idea that they appear to be human. The streaming white light covered by plastic strips gives an impression of a higher power showing that the witches truly do have control over Macbeth and simply trying to mask it. The seemingly…

As Lady Macbeth enters the scene the two other characters are already there. The only light in this scene comes from her candlestick. She is surrounded by darkness which in this case represents the murky hell she is in. Judi Dench's performance is just outstanding, we can easily see Lady Macbeth's distress just through her facial expressions. Judi Dench's representation contains a soul-stirring scream on the word “still” from the line “Here's the smell of the blood still”.…

The next morning, she promptly faints to keep up appearances, so that even if Macbeth was caught, she could still act innocent. Lady Macbeth is someone who is not afraid of committing grave sins to gain power. In fact, she tells Macbeth that if she were not a woman, she would have killed Duncan herself, and begs the spirits to “unsex me here/And fill me from the crown to the toe top-full/Of direst cruelty” (Act 1, Scene 5). She acts incredibly strong at the scene of the crime, however, in Act 5 Scene 1, the audience is exposed to the amount of guilt she feels for the murder of Duncan. The gentlewoman tells the doctor that Lady Macbeth has light surrounding her at all times, and the audience can infer that it is because she no longer needs the dark, but rather, fears it.…

In act 3, all of Macbeth’s admirable qualities have been converted to immoral habits. Similar to Lady Macbeth, Macbeth also requests for the “seeling night”(III,ii, 48) to come and mask his evil intentions of killing Banquo. Macbeth not only intends to hide this sinful deed from his virtues but he also plans on deceiving his wife and not telling her about his plan. The ongoing motif of darkness is ultimately used when Macbeth demands the night to “scarf up the tender eye of pitiful day”(III, ii, 49). Through this use of imagery, it is evident to the reader that Macbeth has completely lost all of his morality because he is insisting for the night to hide his evil actions from the day.…

When the Gentlewoman is interpreting Lady Macbeth “illness” to the doctor, she mentions that “She has light by/ her continually. ‘Tis her command” (5.1.24-25). Watching her husband nearly go mad at the sight of the slain king, the Lady derides Macbeth, saying, “My hands are of your colour; but I shame to wear a heart so white” (2.2.). Although it is not obvious at this point in the play, Lady Macbeth is turning her husband from a remorseful man into a bloodthirsty tyrant. The next kill, that of his former friend Banquo, comes much easier to the newly crowned King Macbeth. Perhaps this is because paid murderers do the killing, but still, Macbeth comes to his decision without his wife’s prompting. Again he is driven mad, this time hallucinating the ghost of Banquo.…
