Causes Of Corruption Of Power In Macbeth

Shakespeare’s Macbeth, is a play about the corruption of power, and how power in the hands of the wrong person quickly escalates out of control. In Shakespeare’s play, Macbeth, Macbeth is a famous soldier who wins the war for Scotland. After the Thane of Glamis betrays the country, Macbeth is named Thane of Glamis. He soon meets three witches who tell him that he will become Thane of Cawdor and King of Scotland. He tells his wife, and she soon devises a plan to make this prophecy come true. Macbeth follows through but this prophecy leads to a slew of killings that cause Macbeth to go crazy. The topic is hotly debated as to what is the primary cause of Macbeth’s insanity. Through Macbeth’s rapt state in the presence of the supernatural, Shakespeare dangles fate a few feet away from Macbeth showing that he wants these things to happen. With the insistence from Lady Macbeth to kill Duncan, Macbeth is pushed into a corner where, through immense insults to his manhood, Lady Macbeth forces Macbeth to perform the deed. This performance triggers Macbeth to begin to enjoy being the cause of the death of all people he considers to be problematic to his position. Macbeth eventually turns against his influences and directly contradicts their wishes as the play progresses. He uses his free will to do horrible things and cause various other dastardly and heinous acts such as killing Banquo and Macduff’s family. Macbeth draws upon Lady Macbeth’s suicide and the supernatural predictions to make his own decision to remain in his castle to fight the war. Macbeth’s influences and poor decisions cause him to make a fatal decision and carry out his final duty, as a tragic hero, to die in order to leave Scotland in a much more governmentally stable
