She was once filled with so much passion, yet showed no signs of guilt after the first murder. “Come, you spirits That tend on mortal thoughts! Unsex me here, And fill me from the crown to the toe, top-full Of direst cruelty; make thick my blood, Stop up the access and passage to remorse, That no compunctious visitings of nature Shake my fell purpose, nor keep peace between The effect and it! Come to my woman 's breasts, And take my milk for gall” (Act 1, scene 5, line 30). The effect that this passage has is to see the lengths that Lady Macbeth will go to in order to become queen. She begs the murdering spirits to make her less of a woman, to fill her with cruelty, to clog her blood so she feels no remorse and to replace milk with poison in her bosom. In Act 5, the reader discovers something shocking about Lady Macbeth. While seemingly evil, she starts to demonstrate remorse for her actions. This is evident when her night terrors begin. «Thane of Fife had a wife. Where is she now? What will these hands ne 'er be clean?» (Act 5, scene 1, page 163, line 44). The washing of her hands signifies her trying to cleanse them from the blood of people she plotted to kill. By the end of the play, we receive the news that Lady Macbeth has passed
