William Shakespeare characterizes Macbeth as a tragic hero, though mainly his own destructive weaknesses that exploit him, but also the external forces. Macbeth's defending pride and increasing greed makes him vulnerable to be easily influenced by Lady Macbeth and the three witches whom simultaneously encourage his tyrannical behaviour. Even with the external forces, Macbeth is conclusively responsible for his own actions, as he denies his conscience repeatedly, commanding it to follow his ambitious ways. By doing so Shakespeare explores the repercussions of these brutal actions to be horrific and tragic, which slowly leads to his own destruction.
