Why Macbeth went through all the trouble he did we may never understand. When a man goes power hungry he will do anything to gain what he wants. Power is an evil thing it cannot be satiated and no one will ever have complete control or power. Macbeth went power hungry he wanted as much authority that he could gain. In the end because he was so greedy it eventually led to the end of his life. Not without some redemption however. You see Macbeth was a tragic hero and possibly one of the best examples of one. To begin with macbeth’s tragic fall we start with the three witches. Macbeth first meets the witches as more of a noble man than anything. He was a man who was loyal to his king and had a lot of pride in his life and himself. The three witches told him a prophecy of power and greed “All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Glamis!” “All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor!” “All Hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king

“ There’s one did laugh in ‘s sleep, and one cried “Murder!” That they did wake each other. I stood and heard them.” (act 2.2 30 - 34) Macbeth’s greed consumed him to the point of no return. Macbeth was willing to kill not only the king but his cousin in order to become the king that the witches had promised him he would be. It was blatantly clear Macbeth would go to any length to gain the power he wanted. He was truly a greedy man who had let his corruption get the better of him. Next thing macbeth had fallen for was selfishness he did not care for anyone but himself. He had only been interested in himself and not anybody around. He didn't even care for his family or friends. “ Know Banquo was your enemy” “ True, my lord.” So is he mine” (act 3.1 130 - 132)
From this quote you can determine that Macbeth is willing to go to any length to keep his power. At this point Macbeth is a broken man he will stop at nothing to gain
