In the book “Macbeth” by William Shakespeare, Shakespeare uses the apparition of Banquo as a reminder of Macbeth’s guilt, Banquo’s lineage and claim of the throne, and to foreshadow future deaths. First, after Macbeth meet with the murderers and he went back to the feast and seen the ghost he said, ¨
Take any shape but that, and my firm nerves
Shall never tremble: or be alive again,
And dare me to the desert with thy sword;
If trembling I inhabit then, protest me
The baby of a girl. Hence, horrible shadow!
Unreal mockery, hence!¨ ( Act 3 scene 4 lines 103-108¨

This shows Shakespeare uses Banquo’s ghost to symbolize Banquo’s lineage and claim of the throne because Banquo has taken Macbeth’s place. Just like the witches predicted Banquo becoming king which came true, Macbeth thinks the prediction of Banquo’s sons becoming king with also come true. So Macbeth decides to have him killed. But even with him dead, the ghosts takes his seat symbolizes that Banquo and his sons will take Macbeth’s spot. Also Macbeth is the only one who can see the ghost showing it was a message only for him. Lastly, when Macbeth is looking at the ghost he say, ¨
MACBETH
Avaunt! and quit my sight! let the earth hide thee!
Thy bones are marrowless, thy blood is cold;
Thou hast no speculation in those eyes
Which thou dost glare with!¨ (Act 3 scene 4 lines 94-97).
Macbeth is looking at the ghost and is terrified. He is describing how he looks and is completely fearful. This shows Shakespeare uses Banquo’s ghost to foreshadow because Shakespeare uses apparitions like the dagger to hint /show Macbeth things are going to happen. When Macbeth seen the dagger, it meant that he had to kill Duncan. These supernatural things he sees hints at things. And as for the Banquo’s ghost it shows that there are more deaths to come. Which is true because after that happening more people die. In conclusion, Shakespeare uses the ghost of Banquo’s to to reveal
