Mac Kee Character Analysis

MacKee is charismatic and intelligent, who is always makes the people around him laughing, and however, he jokes as a way of keeping people at a distance. He has little concern in his son's activities, is too selfish to support his wife in her work and carelessly avoids his patient's concerns. For example, when a mastectomy patient seeks advice because her husband is unable to fully accept her operation, he rejects her worries with a sharp joke.
It isn't long, however, before MacKee finds himself diagnosed with throat cancer, which leads to his being subjected to all the indignities every patient suffers. Suddenly, he's sitting too long in waiting rooms; his own doctor tells him honestly what's wrong and doesn't want to hear his questions;

    McMurphy is a loud, rebellious character and his many efforts to fight for what is right for the patients exhibits key characteristics of those of a Christ Figure. “Nobody can tell why exactly he laughs; there’s nothing funny going on”,(page 12, Kesey).McMurphy, the moment he enters the mental institution automatically changes the attitude of the patients by bringing something odd, laughter.
