The first debut album by MC Hammer was released in 1987 titled Feel My Power, on the track “Let’s Get It Started” Hammer stated his superiority to famous artists like LL Cool J or Doug E. MC Hammer gained better popularity on his second album Please, Hammer, Don’t Hurt ‘Em as it contained his chart topping song “Can’t Touch This;” this sold over 10 million copies as well as being the first hip hop album ever to go diamond. Vanilla Ice and Hammer caused some controversy over not crediting samples taken from older artists for their own music. Rick James even sued him for his sample of “Super Freak” for “Can’t Touch This.” Other artists such as LL Cool J and Ice Cube judging Hammer in their music yet had no effect on his status. Burrell still makes occurrences on television and performs but has stayed in touch with his spiritual roots by becoming an ordained minister. He now has a family of his own yet doesn’t have his personal life as open to the public as it was in the past. Hammer has received several awards for his movie and music career. When Oprah asked if he would have changed any choices he made he simply replied with, “I wouldn't change one thing. I really believe in the butterfly effect. Meaning that if I change one thing, everything else changes. I lose the kids I have now. I lose the relationships I have now. I lose the peace I have now.
