Ma Ona Musubi

Decent Essays
Hawaii has everything: beautiful beaches, amazing sunsets, world-class hospitality, and the list goes on. Unfortunately, the one thing you can’t find in Hawaii is authentic Japanese miso soup unless you know the one place to look for this old-world delicacy. Ma'ona Musubi, located in the heart of downtown Honolulu, HI is a breakfast and lunch restaurant specializing in a variety of Japanese dishes, but perhaps, the most sought-after creation is the miso soup.

Ma'ona Musubi’s owner/chef insists upon using only fresh, high-quality ingredients because there are no shortcuts when it comes to making authentic Japanese miso soup. This is why they use five different types of fish flake, the key flavoring agent giving miso soup its distinct taste.

As you may have guessed this is very popular with the kids and even more so when the big pitcher of Kool-Aid breaks in during school!…

The ingredients used to make a delicious beverage called otai contains watermelon or mangoes, crushed pineapples, coconut, milk, water, and sugar. The combination of these different components made in Tonga gives a unique taste. However, otai made in Tonga differs to how it is made in America. The texture and sweetness of this beverage is different which makes it less satisfying than if it were made in Tonga.…

William H. Sewell defines a historical agent as one who is “capable of exerting some degree of control over the social relations in which one is enmeshed, which in turn implies the ability to transform those social relations to some degree” (Loftus 3). In other words, if one wants to become a historical agent, then one must recognize and take control of his/her social situation before being able to transform his/her situation. In doing so, one can achieve subjectivity, or autonomy. Filmmaker Kurosawa Akira, through his portrayal of protagonist Yagihara Yukie in the film No Regrets for Our Youth, exemplifies Sewell’s definition of historical agency, as Yukie learns to exert control over her life and begins to transform her own world.…

Maus written by Art Spiegelman was the most intriguing comic book that I have ever read, I did not want to let go once I got a hold of it. I soon believed after reading a few pages, how important it is to not judge a book by its cover. The cover has two mice huddled together with a gigantic Nazi symbol above them dripping red (probably blood). The Nazi sign on the front cover made me feel like I was about to read a history book. My first impression of Maus seemed like it would be boring and uninteresting, little did I know I was struck by surprise.…
