Baseball is known as a regional game; however, negotiating the national broadcast rights for the MLB is an important step in providing audiences around the country with high quality baseball matchups throughout the season. The MLB has had tremendous success with their past partnerships with CBS and NBC. However, both networks have been unwilling to commit to broadcasting games throughout the week. The main purpose of this deal is to establish a partnership that will allow the MLB to showcase their teams and players to the country on a weekly basis. ESPN has jumped on the sports broadcasting scene and they are ready to make a huge splash in bringing live sports to their program lineup. CBS is improving on an already impressive sports lineup. NBC has football and had baseball. ABC just won the rights to Monday Night Football. And Fox has just become a new network that is looking to jump into sports. The 1990s is a perfect time for MLB to capitalize the increase desire to broadcast sports live. However, there are a few things that the MLB must receive from licensing their broadcast rights. They must find a network that is able to broadcast games during the week in prime time. I feel like I grew up with Scott. Always on Sportscenter when I was growing using his special catchphrase to draw you into the action. He made Sportscenter fun because he knew how to relate to a younger audience. Scott was a one of a kind news anchor and someone that I always looked forward to seeing on camera. He’s ability to be personable to the audience was unheard of at that time and he truly made sports news exciting, even when I was watching the same show over and over. I will always miss Scott’s enthusiasm and his ESPY speech will also remind me to live life to the fullest every single
