Established as an affiliating University in 1975, MJPRU gained its status to an affiliating-cum-residential university in 1985. This upgrade was relegated when four teaching Departments were established in the MJPRU campus. While August 1997, saw the change in the name of then Rohilkhand University to Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University, MJPRU has come a long way and confirmed itself into a mainstream university with an overall educational developmental plan. It was deemed as a University after including Departments of Engineering and Technology, Management, Applied Sciences, Education and Allied Sciences.
